Sorry… Rodemack is closed !!

Wednesday 4 September

Putting Luneville behind us we set off for a couple of hours drive to Rodemack another one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France reportedly

On arrival, the Motorhome aire is a grassy car park with water & waste if required and is free.

We followed the steps down to the village and through the gap in the medieval Wall into the centre where we had a wander about for 3/4 hour

There was a brewery ( closed) restaurant/ bar (closed) Post Office (closed) tourist office (closed) Church (closed) Antique Shop (closed) Local produce Shop (closed) and that was about all there was apart from very drab houses.

The citadel is surrounded by a very old wall that is mostly intact but you could not consider the village very beautiful at all. Quelle Disappointment !!

We decided not to stay the night here as planned but move on nearer to our next planned stopover at Bergues to break up what would have been a 5 hour drive tomorrow

Sally Satnav took us into Luxembourg and then into Belgium as we were very close to the border. The great thing about Luxembourg is that it is a tax haven and diesel is 25 cents cheaper per litre than France. After filling up we continued our journey

After a couple of hours I checked my Park4night app on my phone and found a quiet little village 10 minutes away from the motorway called Ciergnon which had a car park overlooking a pretty rural scene and was provided with a picnic table and waste bin.

The end of the village here was a cul de sac and very quiet so we had an undisturbed night after playing Dominoes and eating dinner at the picnic table

Thursday 5 September

We set off this morning expecting a 3 hour drive which became 4 1/2 due to roadworks and traffic. Thankfully we shaved a couple of extra hours yesterday. I was cream crackered anyhow without the extra time it would have taken.

We arrive at Bergues which we have visited many times before around lunchtime. Jane has done a bit of Googling and found a nice restaurant in a part of Bergues we have not been to before.

The restaurant is called La Tavern Vauban and the dinner we chose was the Plat du Jour and was delicious. We both had Chicken & chips with salad and a local cheese sauce followed by Tarte Normande washed down with a couple of beers. Yummie!!

We returned to “Cis” with a Tarte au pomme bought from a delicatessen in the town centre which we will have on Sunday with the family on our return. Jeeps I miss those babies !!

Friday 6 September

Up early and once more caught the ferry before our scheduled one. This allowed us to get back around lunchtime to then begin the emptying and cleaning of “Cis”. It was due a deep clean and now nearly 2 weeks afterwards I haven’t fully finished polishing her before putting away until our next trip which will be to York in December.

Catch us then TTFN Pat & Jane
