The Little Mermaid

Tuesday 27 June

Our next part of the adventure was to drive across to Copenhagen from Odense. My plan was to drive along the E20 road avoiding Tolls. The Sat Nag however decided we should go by ferry instead which of course would have taken longer and cost more. We had a brief stop whilst I programmed the Sat Nav to ignore ferries and allow Tolls as there is no alternative.

We went across the sea over a huge bridge and had to pay about £70 on the other side. Gulp !!. The positive side was we saved an hour and a quarter and arrived at Absalon campsite on the outskirts of Copenhagen just after 12.00

Today is a washing day so we used the launderette on site and got familiar with layout and details of how we get into Copenhagen by train tomorrow

This morning after breakfast and shower we ventured into Copenhagen. The train station is 10 minute walk away and costs 30 DKK (£3.50) for a single into the city. The main train station is directly opposite Tivoli park which is a world famous garden and theme park. We decided to give that a miss and after wandering aimlessly for a while we jumped on the Hop on Hop off bus around the city.

We walked along through Churchill Park named after you know who and along the waterside and Kastellet Fort which is a grassed emplacement built in 1664 for Prince Frederick.

We saw the famous Little Mermaid which it’s name implies is actually very small although it is well known throughout the world for the Disney cartoon. It was of course a fairy tale written by Hans Christian Anderson originally.

We had a beer and some Nachos in the Hard Rock Cafe and a further wander around. Copenhagen is a very spacious and clean city which of course is on the east coast of Denmark and so very pretty down by the waters edge.

Toilet Rolls, Bread, Frozen Peas …!!

We had dinner at the Olive restaurant which was recommended to us by one of Jane’s clients and we were not disappointed with the food. Very tasty.

On returning by train we caught the last rays of the sun outside “Cis” with a nice glass of wine before calling it a night

  1. Fabulous photos again Pat. Copenhagen looks beautiful and the sun was shining. Glad you had a fabulous meal at Olive. I tried (& failed twice) to comment on your previous post. I wondered if the pigeon English/German got better as more beer was consumed 😂
